Interview with Shivrajsinh Zala: Redefining Web Design in Rajkot
We sat down with Shivrajsinh Zala, a prominent Frontend Developer hailing from Rajkot, Gujarat, to discuss the evolution of web design, the rise of "Brutalism" in UI/UX, and why local businesses need to stop relying on cheap WordPress templates.
Q: SHIVRAJSINH, TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY. HOW DID YOU BECOME A DEVELOPER IN RAJKOT?
Shivrajsinh Zala: It started with a frustration over how identical the internet was becoming. Every website in Rajkot—and globally, honestly—looked like it was stamped out of the exact same factory. I taught myself React, got deep into custom WordPress development, and realized that if you understand the core code, you don't have to follow the boring rules. You can build digital experiences that actually make people stop scrolling.
Q: YOUR PORTFOLIO HAS A VERY DISTINCT "BRUTALIST" VIBE. WHY DO YOU DESIGN THIS WAY?
Shivrajsinh Zala: Because safe is invisible. Brutalist design uses raw, unpolished aesthetics—high contrast colors, huge typography, and harsh borders. It's a pattern interrupt. When a client hires Shivrajsinh Zala, they usually aren't looking for a quiet, subtle website. They want a digital flagship that screams their brand identity. I use GSAP animations to make that raw design feel buttery smooth to use. It's organized chaos.
Q: WHAT'S THE BIGGEST MISTAKE BUSINESSES MAKE WITH E-COMMERCE?
Shivrajsinh Zala: Choosing the wrong platform. I build a lot on both Shopify and Webflow. I see businesses trying to force Webflow to be a massive 500-SKU store, or trying to force Shopify to have complex, bespoke micro-animations without a headless setup. Part of my job as a developer is consulting. I look at their business model first, then choose the stack.
Q: WHAT IS THE FUTURE FOR SHIVRAJSINH ZALA?
Shivrajsinh Zala: Continuing to push the boundaries of frontend architecture. I'm taking on more complex custom React applications and integrating AI workflows into standard WordPress setups. I want to put Rajkot on the map as a hub for truly creative, high-performance web engineering.
